What to wear for recruitment?

As fall approaches, so does sorority recruitment season!

This is an exciting time for many college students, as they prepare to join a sorority and make lifelong friendships. However, we know that the process can be daunting, especially when it comes to figuring out what to wear for each day of rush.

That's why we've put together a guide to help you nail your sorority rush outfits and make a great first impression on each day of the recruitment process. Here are our recommendations:

  • Day 1 - Ice Water Tea: This is the first day of rush and typically involves an open house event where you can meet members of each sorority. For this day, we recommend wearing a cute and casual outfit, such as a sundress, skirt, or nice jeans with a blouse. Keep your makeup and jewelry simple, and opt for comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing a lot of walking.
  • Day 2 - Philanthropy Day: On this day, you'll learn about the sororities' philanthropic efforts and may participate in a service project. We recommend wearing a slightly dressier outfit, such as a shift dress or blouse and skirt, but still keeping it comfortable and functional. Choose comfortable shoes that you can stand and walk in for a few hours.
  • Day 3 - Sisterhood Day: This day is all about getting to know the members of each sorority and experiencing their sisterhood. We recommend dressing up a bit more for this day, with a cocktail dress or dressy separates. This is also a good day to add a pop of color or statement piece to your outfit.
  • Day 4 - Preference Night: This is the most formal night of sorority rush and typically involves a candlelit ceremony. For this day, we recommend wearing a formal dress, such as a long gown or cocktail dress. Keep your hair and makeup simple and elegant, and don't forget to wear comfortable shoes.

We hope this guide helps you plan your outfits for each day of sorority rush and feel confident as you meet members of each sorority. Remember, the most important thing is to be yourself and let your personality shine through.

Best of luck with sorority rush, and we look forward to seeing you in your fabulous outfits!

XO Kimberly

Get to know the women in each sorority and develop relationships early!

Getting to know women in each sorority is great and thanks to social media, you can do it virtually as well. Once all socials are cleaned up, follow each sorority on Instagram and double tap on some posts. NOTE: if you double tap on one, you should do the same for every sorority, to show that you are open to getting to know each group. But you might say "But I don't know where to find all these IG accounts!"  Don't fret, I've got you! What is #RuskTok?

If terms like "PNM," "work week," "preference round," “#rushtok” and "bid day" are unfamiliar to you, this is your place to learn about Recruitment or Rush.   This is the annual process of selecting new members for the National Panhellenic Conference sororities at Texas A&M University. It takes about a week, during which potential new members attend parties at sorority houses, meet members, talk about themselves, and rank their favorite houses at the end of each day. The members also select the PNMs they want to invite back after each round, leading up to bid day, when selected PNMs receive an official invitation to join a chapter. Although sororities may not be of interest in real life, watching people go through recruitment on TikTok and social media can be fascinating. It's like a reality show that unfolds over a week, but it's easy to forget the long hours, heightened emotions, and stress the women experience, especially given the...

What is a Sorority Rec and how do I get one?

What is it? A sorority letter of recommendation is different from a recommendation for a job or scholarship. It serves as an introduction to a chapter by an alumnae member of a sorority. The letter you use to introduce yourself to alumnae can emphasize aspects of your life that demonstrate your potential to be an involved and committed member, as well as your alignment with the sorority's values and expectations. These aspects may include volunteer work, extracurricular activities, and academic achievements. The rec can supplement the information that chapters receive through recruitment registration and distinguish you as an individual. It's important to note that a letter of recommendation is not a guarantee of further opportunities to engage with a chapter or a bid of membership. To explore all the sororities on campus, it's essential to fully participate in the recruitment process with an open mind. Ok great - so where can I find one? If you're seeking recommendatio...
